Our Heroes rested in the Liquefaction Chamber while discussing plans to invade Iriolarthas’ study.
Veneranda led them across an invisible bridge where they parted ways. In the chamber beyond, a spirit materialized named ‘Everlast’. Everlast was happy for company, but could not divulge the secrets of Ythrn.
Everlast was created by Iriolarthas after the fall of Ythrn to assist in restoring the city. He warned our heroes that Veneranda’s plan could lead to catastrophic consequences as the Obelisk she planned to use was damaged. He also warned them that setting foot in his study would immediately notify Iriolarthas. Our heroes pressed on.
Our heroes emerged in a room protected by two living Blades of Disaster, and a wall of force they could seemingly traverse at will. The blades were dispelled and the wall was nullified when a gemstone powering it was dislodged by Largo’s Horn of Blasting.
8 doorways with sigils of schools of magic spread before them, and an inscription read ‘Speak thy master’s name and enter’. Recalling the names of the archwizards in the musem, our heroes spoke the names aloud and passed harmlessly through the threshold. Klondorn’s reflection greeted them as they passed, and he expressed releif that they had properly engaged the ritual of these doors. His ‘full time gig’ was protecting this room from intruders.
Beyond, our heroes entered a throne room. Here a black mass of starry vortex hung above 8 thrones. Our heroes split up, one group finding the Spindle, which hung in stasis, and the other entering library. Our heroes convinced Dzaan not to mess twith the dangerous Sindle, and in the library Lynaea found a scroll of comet – a cataclysmic spell that calls a fiery ball of death from the sky to obliterate cities. She also found the way through the vortex of stars in the throne room.
Finally, our heroes reached the study. Here they faced a living demiplane, whose mysteries would forever be unolved as it was destroyed before it could pull a hero inside. Iriolarthas flew in from a nearby window and attacked.
This incredibly dangerous foe was destroyed, and Iriolarthas’ hold over Ythrn and the Mythalar was finished.
Our heroes plundered the study, allowing Dzaan and Vellyne to keep Iriolarthas’ spellbook on the condition they copy lost magic for use by other wizards. Vellyne insisted on keeping the Staff of Power that once belonged to Iriolarthas. The staff could be handed over to Veneranda to reverse time to before the crash, but the repercussions of doing this aren’t completely clear.
Our heroes recovered the Scroll of Tarrasque, and The Professor enthusiastically recounted the history of this fearsome beast.
Our heroes also learned more about the Mythalar, that multiple people could attune to it, and direct the flight of the city by Consensus. The Mythalar can also be used to control weather, and can be used to nullify Auril’s eternal night.
