Epilogue

Our Heroes had overcome Auril and needed to consider what to do next. They had a flying city at their disposal and the admiration of all of Icewind Dale due to their heroic exploits.

Vellyne and Dzaan would remain on the city, and it would remain in neutral territory rather than delivered to the Arcane Brotherhood.

Ythrn would also host the silver dragon egg recovered from Grimskalle, until it has a chance to hatch.

Klondorn remains a permanent resident of Ythrn, choosing to present as his favoured appearance – that of the Duergar priest. He is cordial to visitors and chronicles the events of Icewind Dale on stone tablets. He feels a great weight lifted from his shoulders, after Our Heroes demonstrated undeniable prowess against their enemies. He trusts the Codicile of White is in good hands and is hopeful he never has to face our Heroes in combat.

The pressure on the people of Icewind Dale had been relieved, as blizzards blocking trade routes dissipated and traffic could be resumed between the north and south. The sea of Moving Ice became less severe, though a darkness on the horizon now clearly revealed to the world the location of Grimskalle as it drifts in the sea.

Bremen

Kingsport settled in Bremen where he befriended the unnamed Lake Monster. He became so beloved by the townsfolk that he was elected speaker after Shalescar could no longer carry out his duties due to mental decline.

Brynn Shander

The status quo has largely been restored in Brynn Shander. Ten Towners and Dwarves from Kelvin’s Cairn who had sought refuge from Auril’s night have largely returned home to rebuild as the weather permits. News of Vaelish Gant’s death at Revel’s End have brought some comfort to Duvessa Shayne, who continues to lead the Ten Towns. Duergar captured throughout the Ten Towns have been carted to Brynn Shander and remain imprisoned there.

Mishann’s House of the Morninglord enjoys newfound attention from Ten Towners who wish to revere the sunlight that has returned. Copper KnobberKnocker resents these bandwagoners for causing his chore duties to increase ten-fold, but this doesn’t stop him from exagerating his role in restoring the mini-mythalar, conveniently glossing over his abandonment of the project.

When Vellyne isn’t spending time in Ythrn, She stays in her room near the Northlook, spending time in the Tavern poring over material recovered from the ancient city.

Targos

Speaker Naerth remains a thorn in Duvessa’s side, and overtly pressures other towns to fall in line behind him and unseat her as the de-facto leader of Ten Towns. His plans for regional domination are kept in check by Kingsport and the Unnamed Lake Monster.

The cauldron of plenty is a wonder of the Ten Towns, and Naerth uses his considerable resources to fortify Targos in order to protect it from percieved enemies. Paranoia grips the city and outsiders are no longer permitted.

Termalaine

With the mines re-opened and the harbour cleared of ice Termelaine has enjoyed a renewal. The kobolds who’d holed up in the mines have joined the mining and exploration industries and are accepted and beloved members of the community. Trex, the leader of these kobolds, has very few memories of his time in the mines.

Speaker Oarus has thrown in his lot with Naerth and seems to have reconciled his grievances with local political enemies in the guard. His sharp sense of humour and kind hearted nature seem to have melted away, a development that has puzzled his friends and townspeople.

LonelyWood

Dzaan still finds himself unwelcome in the Ten Towns due to the original’s crimes, but found a home in Lonelywood. Speaker Nimsey Huddle has been remarkeably understanding of his situation, and the two became fast friends. When he isn’t roaming Ythrn, Dzaan can be found in the derelict inn ‘The Ramshackle’, restoring it for use by travellers and locals alike.

Deep in the forest surrounding Lonelywood, The undead moon elf Sahnar and his friend the Berry Bush restore the damage done to the Elven Tomb. Sahnar uses the tomb as a staging area to hunt and lay to rest the roaming banshees of the woods that have plagued hunters and trappers for years. The tomb also serves as a safe haven for other animals awakened by Auril’s frost druids.

Easthaven

Easthaven was spared the destruction wrought by the Chardalyn Dragon and the local militia conducted a successful campaign to root out and destroy Duegar cells hiding in the city. However the long months of human sacrifice to Auril was too much to stomach for most residents. Waylen has stepped down and called an election to give people a chance to replace him with new hopeful leadership that doesn’t remind people of the difficult choices made during Auril’s winter. Many townsfolk resent Waylen despite his successes for allowing the Cauldron of Plenty to slip through his fingers, as it was Waylen who hired the adventurers responsible for recovering it.

The Easthaven Ferry has renewed operations and runs daily to each of the Caers

The proprieter of the White Lady Inn reluctantly allows Rinaldo to continue his seances, though the apparition rarely makes an appearance these days.

Dougan’s Hole

City life proved too much for most former residents of Dougan’s Hole, and when the night was lifted many of them returned to the ruins of their former home. There they rebuild, and find strange comfort in the worship of the mysterious Twenty Stones of Thruun.

Good Mead

The people of Good Mead are slowly returning to rebuild now that the Redwaters Lake has begun to thaw. Speaker Shandar remains popular but officially supports Naerth in Targos. His militia have repelled numerous bandit attacks on the Mead Hall, which is now the centre and town hall of the recovering settlement.

Caer Konnig

Speaker Trovus has taken recent events as a wake up call. After literally sleeping through the various troubles facing his town he has given up his beloved wine and set his sights on the future, rather than reliving his glory days as an adventurer in his mind. The Caer enjoys renewed commerce with Easthaven, and has once again become a hub for those who live in the wilderness beyond, and those who wish to explore it.

Caer Dineval

Speaker Crannoc and his handful of servants remain the only inhabitants of Caer Dineval, everyone else has either been killed by Duergar or resettled in Brynn Shander. He rules over rubble, and for what it’s worth, the grump has thrown his support behind Naerth in Targos.

The Reghed Nomads

The four tribes of Reghed Nomads have been decimated by the calamitous influence of Auril. The Tigers have been nearly wiped out, and the Wolves live in hiding with their child king Isaar. The Elk tribes have consolidated and maintain good relations with the Ten Towns, and the Bears struggle to turn away from their dark path of cannibalism.
