Our Heroes questioned their Drow prisoner in a zone of truth. Lynaea translated. With absolute contempt he answered their questions. He described a contingent of Drow priestesses on their was here from Menzoberanzen, a Drow city in the underdark. He revealed that his small group were the only Drow present in the Caves of Hunger.
When asked how he would stop the Drow advance he attempted to smash his head against the icy ground, but Krintas restrained him. He revealed that he would block the tunnel with the worm that created it. When presented with the option to ally or leave our heroes on good terms he refused, stating that his defeat at the hands of vile surface dwellers was a death sentence. He would die now, or the Priestesses would provide a slower more horrible death. Whether he was blinded by prejudice or pragmatically accepting a cleaner death no one can say.
Yrso solemnly executed the prisoner.
Our heroes found a giant’s spear in an isolated cavern, and, ever the guinea pig, Yrso grasped it and accepted a curse. The spirit of Vlagomir the frost giant caused her to grow 1 foot every hour, gaining proportional strength.
Although this was useful for blocking the Remmoraz tunnel with the massive corpse of the adult Remoraz, Yrso dispelled the curse when she had grown nearly 20 feet in height, fearing her size would become impractical.
A small side cavern contained 4 scared Nothics, who could be conversed with through the professor. Though most of their speech was gibberish, they were able to reveal that a Demi Lich named Iriolarthas roams Ythrn and has lost his mind and body. They dimly recollect a time they were human, and Iriolarthas was their leader.
When offered food, they eagerly accepted, and through full mouths warned our heroes that a scroll to summon a Tarrasque lies somewhere in the ruins of Ythrn.
Our Heroes descended into the deepest areas of the glacier, eventually finding themselves in the ancient city itself. They realized a kobold companion was missing, but Gupe soon came bounding down the steps behind them. He had recovered Vlagomir’s spear, perhaps hoping to become a hero on par with his companions. He managed to extract a promise from them to allow him to keep the spear, and his ego grows as quickly as his size.
Our Heroes approached a stadium electrified with magical energy. The Professor explained this was stadium for a popular game in Ythrn called chain lightning. When our heroes entered the bounds, the surrounding static electricity became a force field, and a floating head announced they had 30 seconds to form a team.
A second team materialized composed of blue skinned humanoids, stoic and dedicated to competition, they were defeated by the superior strategies of our heroes, and Lynaea slung the final throw.
A prize floated towards her – a chalice with the properties of a stone of luck.
They next entered a Tower of Abjuration, after some ribbing Dzaan cast detect magic on the tower, and to his surprise discovered a glyph of insanity. Vellyne dispelled the glyph and our heroes entered.
The tower contained an anvil that could be used to destroy magic items, and the corpse of the head Abjurist of the city. his head smashed in by a hammer.
It also contained a magical inscription that read:
First, shield thy heart with a wand from the nether oak.
They explord a nearby neighbourhood, finding another tower with a rotating upper floor. Skant explained this was a luxurious deck for the upper crust of Ythrn, and our heroes used it to survey the city.
Yrso spied the Mythalar, dim but possibly functional in the cntre of the city below a massive tower.
Largo spied the floating skull of Iriolarthas, systematically scouting the streets of a nearby neighbour hood with 3 nothics in tow.
Lynaea spied a distant observatory, with pulsing lights emitting from its upper floors.
