Episode 36 – a Friendly Dryad and a Dead Vampire

Our Heroes found themselves toe to toe with a Gnoll Vampire named Tekelli-Li. With the Professor’s guidance they were able to destroy it.

Li’s crypt was a pillar of ice with a cavity fit for a gnoll. Kobold slaves had arranged a dozen skulls at the base of the pillar.

Our heroes found a frozen frost giant beneath the ice in an adjacent room. Professor speculated that it could also be a vampire. They opted not to free the giant.

They revisited the eldritch being. They all resisted its’ probing except for Dzaan. Although he was successfully removed from the presence of the being, his mind was damaged and he was unable to form words. The being retreated into the ice.

They passed a cave of mirrors and found a mummified librarian from Ythrn trapped in the ice wall.

Unexpectedly, our heroes encountered a grove protected by a dryad. The dryad revealed that Drow were visiting the city of Ythrn, that one eyed creatures followed them back, and that the smooth ice tunnels were created by a monstrous worm.

She mentioned being bound to the grove by Netherese wizards. The same magic keeps the trees alive. When the city fell her grove detached, finally resting deep in the chasm created by the falling city and rapidly covered by ice.

She offered purple fruit to our heroes which she claimed were ‘magically delicious’. And indeed they were. Everyone partook in the fruit and gained magical abilities. Yrso could perform druidcraft, Largo could cast a lightning bolt, and Lynnaea gained the powers of restoration. Even the kobolds enjoyed and for better or worse now have access to magic typically reserved for seasoned mages.

Our heroes then visited a room with a smooth glass cube. Dzaan telepathically messaged our heroes to recommend ‘leaving it for the next guys… he knows an ooze when he sees one’. Our heroes agreed, and the cube was left unbothered.
