During the Trial of Preservation our heroes chose to protect the young boy in the central tent of a slaughtered Wolf Tribe camp. The self-proclaimed king of the wolf tribe pulled down tents in search of the boy, before finally locating and attacking. Our heroes managed to subdue the madman before he could kill the child.
After the fight, a lone wolf emerged and guided the child to safety. Our heroes had passed all four of Auril’s trials.
When they returned to Grimskalle, Sojo was waiting for them. he watched with interest as they opened the sealed way to the Codicile of White. Our Heroes along with Vellyne took a moment to peruse the contents, finding the poem that could open the way to Ythryn, as well as details about Aurilian Rituals and a very rare spell (Frost Fingers). Vellyne was very pleased but still needed to locate the exact spot on the Reghed glacier where the Rime should be spoken. The Professor knows it is a place where the glacier is bisected by a brilliant blue line. Vellyne believes Dzaan could know more, if he’s still alive.
One more door remained beyond the stand that held the tome. Sojo watched with renewed interest as our heroes opened the door and peered inside to find 3 shattered humanoid ice statues. Yrso ventured inside and heard a voice in her head “Do you court death to gain my blessing?” Yrso refused, but it occured to her that now Auril likely knew they were on the island, carrying the Codicile.
Our heroes fled, encountering Ukuma on the way and asked him for assitance finding Angajuk the whale. Ukuma couldnt help them much but wished them well.
At the docks, our heroes rendezvoused with the kobolds who’d carried a silver egg down the slopes of the island. Grom n Gorn also waited here with a longship. She urged our heroes to climb aboard and flee.
Sojo waved goodbye knowing full well what lay in store for our heroes.
Auril and her Roc easily caught up. She appeared as a tall humanoid owl with ram’s horns, wearing a fur cloak.
Grom n Gorn rowed with all her strength so could our heroes could fend off Deity and her pet. After suffering greivous wounds, Auril signaled for her roc to return to the island, and Auril’s owl form rapidly melted into slush, before reforming on the water as a 10 foot tall woman of fearsome aspect made of ice. She instructed our heroes to ‘never return’.
Could she have been toying with our heroes? Or was she weakened from casting powerful magic every night on Icewind Dale? Or was this truly the full force of her strength? Whatever the case our Heroes had survived a brush with a cruel Demigod.
They now had an opportunity to rest below the deck of the longship. Gromen Gorn would take them to Revel’s end before departing on her own journey of self-improvement.
