Our heroes, at the urging of the Mephit Sojo, decided to explore the various shipwrecks surrounding the island. Meanwhile, the Yeti Korgrah was hunting them for defiling the Frostmaiden’s garden by freeing GromunGorn.
The first was the ship Nass hired to reach the island. ‘The Wicked Eddy’ was scuttled and the crew frozen. A walrus was using the empty hold as an ice rink. He introduced himself as ‘Ukuma’ and his friendly nature was appreciated by our heroes amidst the harsh environment. He offered a potion of cold resistance he happened to have around his neck before departing.
The second ship was a merchant vessel, the deceased crew gaurding a giant sized treasure chest full of gold and a magical trident.
Next was an ancient vessel containing giant oysters, which were harvested for meat.
Korgrah the Yeti then caught up to our heroes, and attacked mercilessly before being dispatched. 6 other yetis watched the combat from afar, howling with releif when Korgrah was slain. They turned and were determined to return ‘home’. At this point, Sojo was becoming visibly annoyed. He seemed to enjoy our heroes in combat, or, slipping on ice or tripping on snow banks.
The final ship was a frost giant longship, guarded by a skeletal frost giant that Largo polymorphed into a tiny mouse. The treasures of the ship were looted and our heroes departed for Grimskalle itself.
Grimskalle was guarded by a lonely old giant, who welcomed death by combat. He also guarded the places treasures, including gold and a white drago shield our heroes would later use as a sled.
On the top floor of the palace was a giant nest containing a silver dragon egg. With the help of Vellynes kobolds, our heroes transported the egg to the ground floor where it was placed on the sled for transport back to Angajuk.
In the basement our heroes once again ran into Ukuma the walrus. They offered oyster meat and Ukuma was delighted. he described the basement to our heroes while gliding and rolling across the ice. He pointed to the room to the south which contained the Codicile of White, and to four other passageways, each containing a tiral that must be passed to be granted access to the tome.
Our heroes would need to overcome the trials of Auril – each representing a different aspect of the Demigod. “Curely, Endurance, Isolation and Preservation”. Despite the grim nature suggested by the names of these trials Ukuma remained joyful and optimistic. He spoke of those who began the trials and succeeded, and those who began them and never returned.
By this time, our heroes had spent a little over four hours on the island. Auril could return at any time.
