Having vanquished Xardorok, our heroes were quickly ushered out of the Duergar stronghold by Grandolpha’s allies. They decided to free the illithid eunoch F’yorl and take him with them. F’yorl expressed dubious gratitude.
Our heroes then adjusted the flight path using Xardorok’s map, forcing the construct to double back to Dougan’s hole before proceeding to Caer Dinneval, skipping Easthaven entirely.
On their way out of the fortress, a Duergar priest named Klondorn identified himself and asked to very respecfully impose a request on our heroes. He asked them to thwart Avarice’s attempts to obtain the Codicile of white, and added that ‘The Reghed glacier isn’t the only thing the codicile can sunder, especially for a follower of Levistus.’ Klondorn knew an uncomfortable amount about our heroes exploits, but was infuriatingly vague about his sources. He asked our heroes to ‘do the right thing.’
Our Heroes then left with haste through the spine of the world. On their way they noticed a purple pulsating glow coming from a valley. Recognizing this place as the site of the Id Ascendant our heroes hatched a plan. They approached the now living ship to enlist the Ceremorph’s aid. F’yorl was happy to leave our heroes company and join with Dredevrex and Vorryn.
The Golem they had fought in their last visit to the Id Ascendant had been restored, and now enthusiastically referred to our heroes as ‘friend’.
Our heroes chased the Chardalyn construct past the smoldering ruins of Dougan’s hole and to Good Mead, where it was systematically, house by house destroying the town. Most of the town laid in ruins aside from the mead hall.
Our heroes were invited to take pot shots at the construct with the ballistae mounted on the Id Ascendant. Expecting a mechanical conventional ballista, they were surprised to find living bolt launchers that responded to thoughts. The ballistae were effective but one was destroyed in the Good Mead conflict by the construct’s radiant beam.
When our heroes engaged it, the construct opened its wings and flew away, north to Caer Dinneval.
By the time they caught up, most of Caer Dinneval was destroyed. But Largo had managed to channel his inner eldritch communication skills and convinced the id ascendant to produce weighted nets as ammunition for the ballistae.
The construct defended itself, charming townspeople into fighting againts our heroes but the nets proved to be its downfall, preventing it from escaping and destroying another town.
After destroying the construct, and consecrating the infernal components used to build it, our heroes regrouped and discussed their next steps.
