Episode 21 – The Dark Duchess

The Dark Duchess, scuttled in the frozen coastline of the Sea of Moving Ice

Our Heroes finally reached the Dark Duchess. The ship had long been abandoned in the Sea of Moving Ice , frost and snow had nearly consumed it.

As our heroes approached they could hear the snarls of an Ice Troll within the ships’ hold. Our heroes snuck in to find it attempting to break into one of the ships’ rooms. The troll was handily dispatched by our heroes. In a rite Goliath tradition the ice troll’s heart was consumed by Yrso who temporarily gained the troll’s regenerative abilities.

They noticed in the hold a massive pile of gold and treasure encased in layers of thick ice. They fought the tempation to claim it and searched the ship for their main objective – rum for Good Mead.

Behind the door the troll was attempting to break through, our heroes ound a group of cowering kobolds. The kobolds explained that they served ‘the Master’. Our heroes would later find that the ‘master’ was actually Arveiraturice, and that their instinct t ignore the hoard of treasure may have been wise.

The kobolds also kept a secret goat from which they harvested milk. The goat would have surely become a meal of the Master were she to find out about it.

The ship had mostly been ransacked by the former crew, the only remaining member being Captain Bluemoon, hiding behind the frozen door to his cabin among empty wine bottles and his own untouched treasure. Bluemoon’s journal was also recovered, which Largo hastily put away for later perusal – in a safe location before Arveiraturice returned.

among Bluemoon’s treasure was a bag from which animals could be drawn for service. The animals react affectionately to those who remove them from the bag, dissappearing at dawn.

Our Heroes then left the ship in haste, watching from a safe distance while ‘the Master’ returned and settled into her lair. They then began the long trek back to ten towns.

Would the return journey hold as many perils? and what may have transpired in the Ten Towns during their week away?
