Episode 18 – Macreadus and the Morninglord

Our heroes joined Rinaldo for the seance. This time, the ‘success’ of the seance was debatable. The spirit, consumed by anger and overshadowed by a malevolent presence caused our heroes to hallucinate or witness far-away events. Duergar, using the stolen figurehead from Easthaven’s town centre, were forging a monstrosity made of Chardalynne.

They witnessed the overseer of the project, a massive Duergar covered in ash, with an iron crown partially melted by the forge’s heat and dripping down his face.

The vision ended abruptly, when the spirit formerly contained in the figurehead was unleashed in the seance room, and attacked our heroes. The terrible vision of her anguished face caused Yrso to age into an old woman. After the spirit was vanquished, Yrso collapsed upon seeing her reflection – resembling her own violently murdered mother.

Our heroes chose to find a temple to heal this affliction, and already happened to be on the way to Brynn Shander to visit the House of the Morning lord, to follow up on Dzaan’s summer star.

They were introduced to the staff – Mishan and Copper Knobberknocker. They could receive free healing if they just brought a care package to Macreadus – the priest in charge of the project to fix the summer star. The priests had heard of Dzaan’s execution, and had dropped any secrecy surrounding the project.

Our heroes ventured to the black cabin, which they found empty, aside from the skeletal remains of what could only be assumed to be Macreadus. This was shortly verified, when Yrso picked up the seemingly inert Summer Star and was disintegrated by its power.

She now lived in the border ethereal, along with a huge floating head with a deeply unpleasant personality. Unable to effectively communicate with the surviving heroes, they were nonetheless able to repair the summer star with a new ring to protect those outside from the brilliant light.

Lynaea activated the device, which whirred and spun and shone brightly before decaying and becoming inert forever.

The sun then rose over icewind dale for the first time in years. The Morninglord also blessed our heroes with a permanent boon – and restored Yrso to her former self. Celebrations were short lived, as agents of Auril approched the cabin to attack.

Once dispatched, one was identified as the former captain of Easthaven’s guard. Risen from the dead by Auril as a mockery of his life as a dutiful public servant.

Our heroes returned to Brynn Shander, spreading tales of their exploits along the way. Now the Ten Towns knows them as the heroes who returned the sun, while another crew of Heroes, known for their destructive but effective habits, now find themselves sharing the limelight with these recent upstarts.

Now our Heroes find themselves without any pressing matters to attend to, aside from an impending Duergar invasion, but they hoped the sun would discourage a full scale assault from the Duergar, who despise daylight.
