Our Heroes left the Spire of Netheril behind and began their journey back to Easthaven accompanied by Dzaan and Krintas.
Dzaan, like an excited child, discussed his plans to use the Summer Star to focus the sun’s energy and mine his way into Ythrn. He was happy to allow the other members of the Arcane Brotherhood fumble around for the Codicil of White. He also asked our heroes to recover his spell book from the Easthaven archives, which he described as cleverly disguised as a book of love poetry.
During the journey, our heroes spied what at first appeared to be Auril’s nightly rounds in the sky, but was actually an Ancient White Dragon named Arveiaturace, ridden by the mummified corpse of her friend and companion Meltharond. The White Wyrm is well known in Icewind Dale, but generally respects the Ten Towns and has never directly threatened them. It is rumored that she is blind.
Later, during another of Dzaan’s rants, he began to decompose in front of our heroes, forming a bubbly mass of acidic black goo. Our heroes were able to communicate with the ooze, concluding that it must still have Dzaan’s mind. They collected the ooze in an alchemical jar and handed him to Krintas. Krintas took the jar west, likely to Brynn Shander.
When our heroes reached Easthaven, they discovered things had changed since their last visit.
The Chardalyne figurehead held in the town hall had been stolen during a blizzard. Guards were slain, and evidence suggested a dwarven caper. ur heroes concluded it must have been the Duergar.
The Velvet League – a group of adventurers led by an old goblin, had recovered a cauldron that produces endless food during their search for missing Easthaven fishermen. They sold the cauldron to Speaker Naerth Maxildanaer in Targos, where he keeps it for himself and his close knit elite allies. Easthaveners have grown to resent this turn of events, and lost faith in their own speaker Waylen.
Our Heroes ran into Rinaldo, the medium, who confronted Largo on abandoning his promise to assist in another seance. Largo agreed to a seance that very night, but Rinaldo continued to feign indignance.
Our heroes managed to recover Dzaan’s spellbook from the town’s archives, entitled “The Red Winds of Passion”. as expected, full of juvenile love poetry that held a strange appeal to Yrso.
Our heroes purchased a pair of Axebeaks from the stable, and made their way to the White Lady Inn, where they successfully negotiated with the innkeeper to perform another seance.
