Our Heroes ventured into the final floor of the Spire of Nethereil while Dzaan’s copy and Krintas remained safely in the upper floors. There, our heroes slew a pair of basilisks that had made the tower their home.
They found the final resting place of the original inhabitant of the spire, a wizard, crushed by furniture in ancient times. When his corpse was disturbed, his spirit awoke and harrassed our heroes for some time. This undisturbed floor contained many ancient treasures, sure to be put to good use by our heroes..
Our heroes found the room containing the device which makes illusions real. A hologram of an ancient wizard spoke as if it were a sideshow. Dzaan translated his words and prepared himself for transmutation. He stood in the circle of runes while Yrso touched the device.
It seemed as though the device worked, though Dzaan would later reveal that the device was irrevocably broken, restoring him to life was the device’s final activation.
Dzaan, now trusting our heroes, spoke about his mission to this place. That Vellyne’s professor orb was relied upon to locate the lost city of Ythrn, and that Dzaan’s studies here in the spire had revealed the location of the city without it. Dzaan also recovered a miniature Mythalar that he named the ‘Summer Star’. He sent this to the House of the Morninglord in Brynn shander for study, figuring the priests of Sun Sun would have more success studying it.
Dzaan explained that next steps would be to recover his spellbook from easthaven, and follow up on the progess on the Summer Star. He could not hide his excitement.
Before too much could be discussed, rummaging could be heard in the upper floors, and our heroes found a group of Duergar led by an emaciated individual with strange psychic powers. Rather than grow to great size like his companions, this Duergar could shrink to the size of an insect, and deal devastating psychic blows seemingly from nowhere. The Duergar were defeated, but the tiny one was unaccounted for.
Dzaan is now ready to return to civilization, and may have convinced our heroes to assist him in recovering his spellbook. Dzaan’s disguises may be effective, but his mannerisms and accent are a dead giveaway in the town that likely wouldn’t make a distinction between the murderer Dzaan and this ‘innocent’ copy.
