The book’s cover is a single piece of white ermine fur cut to size and sewn onto a pair of seasoned white pine boards. A clasp and lock of tarnished silver normally holds the book closed, though the key is missing and the lock has been forced open. The vellum pages are inked in dark blue with silver painted around the edges, although two pages at the end look as though someone added them after the book’s creation, and these pages lack the silver border of the first thirty-eight pages). The pages are sewn to a leather spine with strips of sinew, and the spine in turn is sewn to the covers underneath the ermine. The cover has no markings identifying the book, but the first page bears the book’s title and Auril’s holy symbol.
The book contains the poem required to open the way through the Reghed glacier to the ancient city of Ythryn. The exact location is said to be “a place where a waterfall once split the Reghed glacier in two”.
The codicile also contains the following spells and abilities:
Flesh to Stone : a level 6 spell for any class that transforms flesh to ice.
The Rime of the Frostmaiden : an incantation of the poem can sunder most ice or crystal structures in 3 rounds (30 seconds)
Shatter : 2nd level spell found in PHB

Session 20: The Codicile of White s located on Grimskalle, an island in the sea of moving ice. Grimskalle is Auril’s home.
Session 15: The Codicile of White has been identified as an item required to enter the lost Netherese city of Ythryn, long ago buried and sealed under the Reghed glacier.
Session 14: Others in Icewind Dale appear to be searching for this item. An Albino Tiefling in the care of the Knights of the Black Sword left behind notes indicating it could be located in Grimskalle – though she wasn’t sure where to find Grimskalle itself.
Session 6: Nothing is known about this, only that it could be related to the worship of Auril.
